Off This Week, But Something New Too

Jan 16, 2009

Hey loyal listeners,

No show for this week, mostly my fault due to a business trip and just falling behind on editing. Aside from that, though, had an idea that I wanted to float on by the masses: Ozone Multiplayer Weekends. Those of you who are gamers and want to hop on for a few hours of gameplay with your hosts, we just may be able to make that happen. First, on the PC side of things: Lando is a bit on the limited side here as he currently only would be able to play Team Fortress 2, but I'm up for TF2 or Left 4 Dead. Anyone out there with a PS3, that's just me but a lot more options: Burnout: Paradise, LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Online, GTA IV, Tekken Dark Resurrection or Super Stardust HD. So what's the opinion out there? Sound like something interesting or a dud? Comment or email and let us know, and we'll be back next week with a new show.

Maybe the problem is that when anime is done right, really truly right; it cannot be brought to live action. Maybe there isn\'t anyone who could play Spike. Maybe we\'ve all bonded to the animation in such a way, and added our own concepts to the realization of it in our own mind\'s eye, so that there is no way it could be externally actualized. Maybe the anime is more than enough, its a success and should be left alone for the success that it is as a movie. Why do we have to make it live action for it to be an \"actual success\". But then, Hollywood is running out of ideas and they will mine every success we love that stands outside big budget mania, and make them something cheap and marketable. Akira, Cowboy Bebop, Battle Angel Alita: all of these are on the chopping block. And now, a list of successful media Hollywood has wiped its ass with. Feel free to add your own.

Johnny Neumonic
The Scarlet Letter
Vampire Lestat
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Nick Fury (David Hasselhoff, are you fucking kidding me)

The movie rights of Altered Carbon have been bought. I can only pray that this, being one of my favorite books, doesn\'t end up on this list. At least for now, Neuormancer has dodged the bullet by remaining in production hell.
